First deadly case of coronavirus in Morocco

The Health Ministry of Morocco on Tuesday reported the first case of death from coronavirus that claimed the life of an 89-year-old woman who suffered from chronic health problems.

The elderly woman, a Moroccan citizen who had been living in Italy, “suffered from chronic illnesses affecting the respiratory and cardiovascular system”, the ministry said in a statement.

According to the statement, the deceased returned to Morocco in late February when tests confirmed that she had been infected with the virus. The woman had been placed under medical supervision in a hospital in Casablanca.

Two other infections have been confirmed in the kingdom – a Moroccan man who came home from Italy and a French tourist who arrived in Marrakesh on Saturday, March 7. Both are under medical supervision.
