Taxi driver without licence struck and killed 3 pupils in Vumba, Manicaland

Two underage students have been struck and killed on the spot while the third one has died on his way to a hospital after Vumba taxi driver without an appropriate licence hit them. It is alleged that the taxi lost control and struck the pupils who were on their way to school.

The tragic accident occurred last Friday at the 28km peg along the Mutare-Vumba Road, Manicaland deputy police spokesperson, Assistant Inspector Luxson Chananda said.

The 39-year-old driver, named Kanganwai Sombreiro was driving a grey Toyota Wish belonging to another person along the Mutare-Vumba Road towards Leopard Rock carrying six passengers.

According to a report, Sombreiro lost control of the vehicle, his car skidded off the road to the right and hit three pupils, killing two of them on the spot. The third one was supposed to be transported to Mutare Provincial Hospital but didn’t make it. He died in an ambulance, despite the medics’ efforts to resuscitate him.

Chananda said the driver and the six passengers, sustained minor injuries and were taken to Mutare General Hospital, where they were treated and later discharged.

The police arrested the driver and charged him with an unintentional triple murder.
