A Grade 8 boy’s death has aroused widespread public concern following the reports of a brutal stabbing on Saturday afternoon, the Gauteng Department of Education said.
Steve Mabona, the Gauteng Education spokesperson told the media that a Grade 12 girl from the Fochville Secondary School had allegedly stabbed to death the pupil from neighbouring school on Friday afternoon. The boy was from Thutokitso Secondary.
The news of the Grade 8 pupil’s death follows closely after at least four pupils died in various incidents in Gauteng schools this week.
Being deeply terrified of what had happened Gauteng Education MEC Panyaza Lesufi has appealed for divine intervention.
“We have no option but to call upon all spiritual denominations to come together and lead us in prayer, indeed we plead for divine intervention,” said Lesufi in a statement on Friday.
The Gauteng Department of Education will send psychosocial specialists to these schools on Monday. All those students, teachers, their relatives who are in need of psychological assistance will be able to visit them starting Monday.
Police in Fochville were unable to immediately confirm the case.
