Sudan-South Sudan tribal clashes: Death toll rises to 31

The death toll from the attack on civilians in Kolom, about 12km north-west of Abyei town, which occurred on Wednesday has risen to 31.

The oil-rich Abyei area is disputed between Sudan and South Sudan. It is inhabited by Misseriya Arab nomads in the north and Ngok Dinka people in the south. It was the settlement of the latter that was attacked this time.

No one has yet claimed responsibility for the attack; however, the Sudanese government blame the United Nation Interim Security Forces for Abyei (UNISFA) for not preventing the disaster.
