Yesterday, the police, firefighters and emergency services were called to a burning house in Driekop outside Burgersfort in Limpopo. They were all shocked to discover two dead bodies on the scene.
“Upon arrival, the house was already engulfed in flames and the couple’s motor vehicle, a Nissan bakkie, was totally burnt out. Police commenced with initial investigations at the scene and made the gruesome discovery of the bodies,” police spokesperson Brigadier Motlafela Mojapelo explained.
The investigators identified the deceased as a 62-year-old man and his 57-year-old wife who owned the burnt down property. They also claimed the man could have hacked the woman to death and torched the vehicle before setting himself alight inside the house.
“Magdeline Mpana Mahlokwane’s body was found inside a shack while Phillip Mafalo’s charred remains were found inside the gutted five-roomed house,” Mojapelo stated. “During further investigations, police found the blood-stained murder weapon next to the woman’s body and a bottle containing the remnants of a flammable substance.”
Mojapelo added the police have opened cases of murder, arson and malicious damage to property along with an inquest docket.
