A family of three including a 5-year-old girl and her parents has been killed in fire engulfed an informal settlement in Eastern Cape, the police officials said on Thursday in Moeggesukkel, Centurion.
According to the reports, the blaze broke out and spread on several shacks on Tuesday.
Police spokesperson Capt Gerda Swart said in her statement, “SAPS and the local fire department responded after a complaint was received that houses were on fire. On arrival, two informal houses were burning and the fire was extinguished by the fire department.”
Once the fire was put out the firefighters examined the site and discovered the bodies of the three victims in the debris.
The authorities are to release the identities of the now-deceased family members as soon as they had been identified and their next of kin informed.
It was not immediately clear what caused the blaze and the case has been handed over to police.
