Yesterday, the police in Pongola, KwaZulu-Natal, apprehended a man who was trying to reach the SA-Mozambique border with 50kg of heroin stashed in his vehicle.
According to police spokesperson Brigadier Jay Naicker, the officers had received a tip-off which led them to the N2 highway where the suspect’s car was stopped.
“The vehicle was intercepted and a search was conducted. During the search, police found 15kg of suspected heroin hidden in the vehicle’s spare wheel. The street value of the drugs is estimated at R2.7 million,” he stated.
The 40-year-old suspect was arrested and charged with possession of drugs. He is to appear in court soon.
