An incredibly dreadful drama unfolded right before the eyes of a 2-year-old when the husband of the child’s mother chopped off her arms and struck her causing her skull to fracture on Tuesday in uMkhuze, north of KwaZulu-Natal. The man then killed himsef.
The 35-year-old woman has been airlifted to St Augustine’s Hospital, where the medics are fighting for her life and trying to reattach her armsб saving at least some of the physical functions. It is said that the woman has undergone several surgeries by the moment of the publication.
Such a horrific incident has drawn the attention of the state authorities. It is expected that Acting KZN premier Ravi Pillay is going to visit the woman in hospital on Thursday.
Pillay is also expected to provide further details about another gruesome gender-based-violence incident that occured in KwaMashu, north of Durban, in which a pregnant woman was allegedly killed by her partner.
“The two cases are some of the most gruesome cases of gender-based violence recorded in the province since the start of the 16 Days of Activism for No Violence Against Women and Children Campaign,” the KZN office of the premier declared in a statement.
