Wednesday night brought another deadly car accident to the busy Harare-Mutare highway in Zimbabwe.
At around 7pm, a light motor vehicle and haulage truck collided when the truck side-swiped the first car causing fatal injuries to all four of its occupants. The incident reportedly took place at the 140th kilometre of the Harare-Mutare highway.
The police released the identities of three victims: Edwin Kudzaishe, aged 26, from Mutanda Village in Bikita, Janet Chawadza and Joice Mushamiviri, aged 52 and 26 respectively, both from Chitiyo Village, Mutare. The fourth victim is yet to be identified.
“The accident occurred around 7pm on the 140 km peg along Harare-Mutare highway near Headlands, where the driver of an Isuzu KB250 heading for Mutare is said to have encroached into an opposite lane and side-swiped with oncoming haulage truck,” national police spokesperson Assistant Commissioner Paul Nyathi said confirming the accident.
He assumed that the driver of the Isuzu had lost control of his vehicle causing the vehicle to drive off the road. The car turned over one time and came to rest on its wheels, killing four passengers instantly.
