Another Herolds Bay victim: Car went off cliff, female driver’s body recovered next day

Another incident at Voëlklip in Herolds Bay claimed the life of a 52-year-old woman whose dead body has been retrieved from the sea.

On Tuesday at about 9:30pm, a local resident witnessed a red Chevrolet Spark driving over and going off a cliff at Voëlklip, the Southern Cape police reported.

Looking for any survivors, the police diving units, emergency medical and pathology services and the National Sea Rescue Institute (NSRI) joined their forces working tirelessly through the night. The woman’s body was finally noticed and recovered early on Wednesday.

“An inquest docket was opened after the body of a 52-year-old woman was recovered from the sea at Herolds Bay near George on Wednesday, at about 07:15 am,” police spokesperson Sergeant Chris Spies confirmed.
