9 people in total lost their lives in a horrendous head-on car crash involving a bakkie and a car on the R531 road between Hoedspruit and Swadini, Limpopo, on Saturday.
Police spokesperson Brig Motlafela Mojapelo has alleged that a Toyota bakkie 4×4 single cab travelling from Swadini collided head-on with a Toyota Avanza travelling from the direction of Hoedspruit. In this collision, eight people died instantly.
The paramedics managed to stabilise one of two people who had survived the accident and transported the victim to hospital for treatment. Sadly, the person died shortly afterwards.
The detectives are trying to identify the deceased person as there were no documents belonging to the victim found at the scene.
It is also reported that one of the vehicles had been carrying buckets of snake skins, starfish, crabs, and other dead sea creatures as they were found scattered around the crash site.
“They were apparently carried in the back of the bakkie,” Mojapelo explained.
An investigation into the matter has been opened.
