A man from KwaZulu-Natal province is to spend the rest of his life in prison as the Court has found him guilty of raping his 12-year-old daughter.
The Inkanyezi Regional Court in Eshowe, in northern KZN, sentenced the 45-year-old man to life imprisonment on Thursday for the rape which had happened in October 2018.
“The accused sent his wife to buy ingredients to make sorghum beer. When his wife was away, he called his daughter who was playing in the yard with her siblings to his room. He overpowered her, covered her mouth and raped her. He told her to leave the room and instructed her not to tell anyone,” police spokesperson Col Thembeka Mbele advised.
Gathering all the courage the next day, the poor girl complained to her mother about the ordeal.
According to Mbele, the mother had taken her daughter to the Mbongolwane police station where the investigators opened a case of rape of underage. The docket was then handed over to the Eshowe family violence, child protection and sexual offences unit for further investigation.
An intense investigation carried out by the experienced detectives led to a successful conviction and the above mentioned sentence.
