The police arrested a man on suspicion of him having killed three of his own family and trying to conceal the crime by dumping their bodies in different parts of Soweto, Johannesburg.
The 48-year-old man was handed over to the police by the community members on Wednesday. According to them, the suspect disappeared the same day the mother and children went missing.
The bodies of a 47-year-old woman and her two children, aged 10 and 11, were found six days after their family members had approached the police reporting them missing, police spokesperson Brig Mathapelo Peters confirmed on Wednesday.
The arrested had pointed to a place in the bushes in Zondi, near Jabulani hostel, where the officers discovered the first body that belonged to his wife. According to the man’s next tip, the law enforcers managed to find the bodies of the children at the second scene, at Mofolo Park.
He is in custody right now waiting for Friday’s trial at the Protea Magistrates’ Court where the charges of three counts of murder will be brought against him.
