Two elderly women from Bulawayo, Zimbabwe, have been detained for allegedly stealing US$17, 160, R4, 800, and RTG$14, 000 from a burial society. They were working in the society as the secretary and the treasurer.
It is reported that the suspects were collecting foreign currency from the society members. Every person contributed US$5. One of the members wanted to collect the money from the society but was denied as the duo failed to produce the money.
During the hearing of the matter, the duo pleaded not guilty to the crime saying they had taken some money, but not all of it. The former secretary admitted to taking US$1, 400.
The next hearing has been scheduled to October 18.
