The Graaff-Reinet police in the Eastern Cape are probing a case of murder of a newborn child following a dreadful discovery at a Port Elizabeth family’s house.
It is said that the body of the newborn child was found in a house in Kingwill Street on Wednesday night.
Police spokesperson Captain Bradley Rawlinson advised that the body of the baby wrapped in a towel and placed in a box had been found in a cupboard of a 22-year-old woman’s bedroom.
The police believe the young woman had delivered her child on Sunday and then, trying to hide the baby from her parents, placed it in the cupboard.
An autopsy will be conducted to establish if the baby was stillborn or died as a result of the woman’s alleged actions.
