Zimbabwe National Army soldier on trial for kidnapping two police officers

A 31-year-old National Army soldier made his appearance in court. He was suspected of kidnapping two Beitbridge police officers. The man had allegedly assaulted the officers, disarmed them, and kidnapped them in a donkey-drawn cart.

The incident happened on September 12, 2018. According to the State, all three were on patrol along the Zimbabwe-SA-Mozambique border. The suspect let the police officers walk in front of him and then suddenly ordered them to lie down on the ground and surrender their weapons. He later proceeded to beating and kicking them before tying their hands at the back and forcing them into the cart.

The resident magistrate remanded the suspect in custody. The hearing of the matter is scheduled to September 30.
