Two corrupt Joburg cops nabbed, accused of bribery

The elements of corruption in the killing of a taxi driver, shot when the taxi operators chased the drug dealers two weeks ago, are under the police investigation.

The victim named Jabu Baloyi was allegedly gunned down by a foreign national in the Pretoria CBD last month during an altercation with the people linked to the drug dealing in the area.

According to Independent Police Investigative Directorate (IPID) acting spokesperson Sontaga Seisa, they are continuing the investigation into the taxi driver’s murder that took place on 26 August 2019. It is alleged that the wave of mass violence and foreign shop looting was sparked by the death of Baloyi.

The IPID confirmed on Wednesday that two Johannesburg police officers were suspected of being involved in a corrupt scheme in relation to the taxi driver’s death.

“There are allegations that there are some elements of corruption and that is the reason why IPID is also investigating the case,” Seisa averred.
