The Sydenham SAPS are searching for the alleged killers of an 88-year-old Reservoir Hills man who was found in the basement of his home on Wednesday night.
“His hands and legs had been bound. Another elderly woman, believed to be the victim’s sister and thought to have been suffering from Alzheimer’s, was found unharmed on the property,” the police officials stated.
The relatives of the two had become worried and alerted the police saying the elderly man and his sister didn’t answer the phone calls.
“The officers were met by a stench and called the SAPS Dog Unit. It took the dogs five minutes to point out a drum. The drum was covered by a lot of timber. We managed to remove the timber and found a body,” police spokesperson Rodney Moodley explained.
He says the body of the elderly man had been found wrapped in a carpet in the drum closed off with sand.
The police have opened a case of premeditated murder. No arrests have been made so far.
