Two collisions in a row have killed four and sent fifteen more people to hospital after eight vehicles, including a passenger bus, crashed on the M1 north near the Xavier off-ramp in Ormonde, Johannesburg, in the early hours of Thursday.
The huge pile-up started when the bus collided with a minibus taxi hitting another car, JMPD spokesperson Chief Superintendent Wayne Minnaar confirmed.
The triple-vehicle crash immediately caused another collision involving five more vehicles.
“Four people died on the scene and 15 were injured and taken to various hospitals,” Minnaar told the media.
The Johannesburg police department officials along with the emergency services’ personnel are at the scene.
The authorities are urging the drivers to choose an alternative route.
