On August 7, the police arrested two people from Birchleigh in Kempton Park suspected of having committed a murder of their 5-month-old baby boy.
The police officers arrived at the couple’s house in Jonathan Street after a call reporting the 5-month-old baby dead on August 4, police spokesperson Captain Lesibana Molokomme confirmed.
The parents of the deceased boy told the police they had found their child breathless in his cot.
Molokomme added the body had been taken to the government mortuary for post-mortem examination. It was discovered that the child had suffered blunt force injuries.
The mother, aged 24, and the 28-year-old father have been arrested on suspicion of killing their own child.
The couple already made their first appearance in the Kempton Park Magistrates’ Court on August 8. The former parents will remain in custody pending their bail application scheduled for August 22.
