A two-vehicle car crash left a man, believed to be in his late thirties, dead as his car collided head-on with a truck on the R56 near Richmond in the KwaZulu-Natal Midlands on Tuesday morning.
The emergency services responded to the scene and found a light motor vehicle completely destroyed with the driver trapped inside.
The man was in critical condition and the EMS Advanced Life Support paramedics had to use the jaws of life and other hydraulic equipment to cut the trapped driver free from the wreckage. The driver of the truck was not hurt.
“One he was freed from the vehicle, his condition deteriorated and CPR was initiated,” EMS spokesperson Derrick Banks advised.
All the attempts to save the driver’s life failed. Unfortunately, he passed away from the injuries received in the crash.
The exact cause of the collision is still unknown. The authorities were on the scene investigating the accident.
