A couple standing on a bridge passionately embracing each other in the heat of the moment – it is usually very romantic but it was not when the love and the lives of two ended in such a tragic way. Two lovers plunged 15 metres to their death after tumbling over a bridge fence while locked in embrace on Saturday last week.
A CCTV on Bethlehem Bridge captured the moment of the tragic incident that occurred in the southern Peruvian city of Cusco in the early hours of Saturday morning. After the fall had happened at about 1am, the witnesses raised an alarm.
Maybeth Espinoz, 34, and Hector Vidal, 36, were walking home from a nightclub when they stopped to kiss. It can be seen on the video how Maybeth sits on the railing and Hector is standing in front of her. A few moments later, Maybeth appears to lose her balance so she wraps her legs around Hector as he is desperately trying to pull her back.
Unable to do that, Hector is drawn forward as well, and they both tumble over the railing onto the road below.
When the paramedics arrived, the couple were still alive but sadly Maybeth died on the way to the Hospital de Contingencia in Cusco while her partner died in intensive care the next day as he had sustained a serious skull fracture.
It is unclear at this stage whether the local police are investigating the matter.
