The Limpopo SAPS officers have recovered 152 firearms from the ex-employees of defunct security companies.
According to police spokesperson Col Moatshe Ngoepe, the officers were acting within a concerted effort by the police in the province aimed at eradicating all possibilities of the perpetrators to commit crimes.
“During the operation in the Thohoyandou [policing] cluster, 34 security companies were visited and 152 firearms and 93 live rounds [of ammunition] were recovered. The recovered firearms and ammunition will be destroyed after proper procedures are completed.”
The police urge the community members possessing the information about the unscrupulous companies still operating in the areas to contact the closest police station.
