A few families have been displaced by a shack fire in an informal settlement near Mokgoba village outside Modjadjiskloof.
The blaze had started in one of the shacks but was put out by the Mopani District Municipality Fire and Rescue Unit before it could spread to the nearby RDP settlement.
Mopani spokesperson Witness Tiva promised the assistance to those affected by the accident.
“Eight shacks have been gutted and the victims will receive relief in a form of food parcels, tents and other basic amenities,” Tiva claimed.
The Mopani Disaster Management Centre is working on the scene to establish the actual extent of the damage caused during the incident.
No injuries or fatalities have been reported.
In a separate incident at Namakgale township in the Ba-Phalaborwa Municipal area, a seven-year-old child sustained minor injuries in a fire that had destroyed the house of a local family.
According to Tiva the cause of the fire in both incidents is still unclear and the police are investigating.
