SAPS Constable killed in shootout in CT

A police officer has been killed, two more officers and a suspect have been wounded in shootout in Delft. The incident happened on Sunday.

According to police spokesperson Cpt FC van Wyk, the shootout started while the officers were performing crime prevention duties.

“Delft police performing crime prevention duties in the area came under fire in the early hours of this morning [Sunday], resulting in the death of one and serious injury to two other police members.”

The suspect managed to flee the scene. Another suspect had been wounded and was detained by the second police patrol that had appeared on the scene. The 24-year-old man is now under police guard in hospital.

The officers urge the community members possessing the information about the second suspect’s location to contact the nearest police station.
