The K43 road was barricaded by the residents of Lenasia South protesting over the land grabs in the early hours of Friday morning, the authorities reported.
The locals have gone to the streets to march against the illegal structures erupting in Lenasia, south of Johannesburg.
“Residents had blocked several roads with rocks and burning tyres,” police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubela confirmed.
Makhubela added that the residents of neighbouring Ennerdale, Zakariyya Park and Kliptown had supported the protesters in Lenasia.
At this stage the police are monitoring the situation “to make sure the roads are open as the protests must not infringe other people’s rights”.
