An abandoned 2-month-old girl is now under close medical supervision in a Durban hospital after her mother had left her only child outside a restaurant in Verulam, KwaZulu-Natal, and tried to flee.
The local authorities said they had been alerted of a little baby found on Wick Street on Friday. At approximately 08:01pm, the members of the Reaction Unit South Africa were called out to Copper Chimney restaurant after an employee of the fast food outlet had found the child on a pathway behind the business premises.
There is a CCTV footage making rounds on the social media which shows a woman in a white jacket leaving the baby in what appears to be an empty passageway.
Upon arrival, the reaction officers had contacted RUSA paramedics who assessed the child and found her to be in good health. The paramedics transported the baby to a local hospital.
The mother had been apprehended and charged with child abandonment. She was supposed to appear in the Verulam Magistrates’ Court on Monday.
