Syphilis cases in Europe reach new record

The number of syphilis cases in Europe has increased over the last several years because of more risky sexual behaviour.

According to the European Centre for Disease Prevention and Control based in Stockholm, Sweden, in 2017, over 33 thousand cases of syphilis were reported in 28 countries which is 70% more than in 2010.

Syphilis rates were nine times higher in men than in women.

The decease peaked among males aged between 25 and 34.
