2 Soweto people killed because of parcel’s contents

Three people were in their car when three armed men began shooting at them in Protea Glen, Soweto, on Thursday morning. Two men were killed, the third sustained a number of gunshots but survived.

According to police spokesperson Captain Kay Makhubele, the victims were in a white Toyota Etios parked near a house in the township when a man appeared carrying a package in a bag and handed it over to them.

When the driver of Toyota was about to drive off, a blue Mazda stopped next to his car. Three armed occupants got out of the car and opened fire on Toyota fatally injuring two of the victims. The third man was also wounded but survived and was taken to hospital.

The suspects took the parcel from the bullet riddled car and fled. It is still unclear what the contents of the parcel were.

Two counts of murder and one of attempted murder are investigated by the police.
