Manhunt launched after cash-in-transit heist in KZN

An undisclosed amount of money was stolen during an armed robbery committed by a group of unidentified people in Highlands, KwaZulu-Natal on Monday evening, the KZN police announced. A cash-in-transit company’s vehicle with its occupants was caught under gunfire, luckily no one was harmed.

“Security officers had just collected money from various businesses in Umzimkhulu, Ixopo and Highlands when they were attacked on Monday evening. The robbers, travelling in a white Isuzu bakkie, blocked the road and opened fire on the security van,” national police spokesperson Colonel Athlenda Mathe stated.

Threatening with a firearm, the assailants forced two security guards out of the cash-in-transit van, disarmed them and then pulled a number of cash boxes from the van. The suspects then fled the scene in their getaway car.

The KZN police opened a case of robbery and attempted murder.
