Four people were killed and seven others were injured in a three-car crash near Ikageng in Potchefstroom on Saturday night, the North West police stated.
Under unknown circumstances, a Tata bakkie driver was supposedly driving across the N12 at the last entrance of Ikageng [Sarafina Road], when he crashed his vehicle into a Hyundai that was travelling from Klerksdorp towards Potchefstroom.
All the passengers travelling in the back of the bakkie were thrown out and landed on the road when the vehicles had collided. A few seconds after the first collision, an unconfirmed number of people scattered around the accident place were driven over by a KIA which failed to avoid the second collision.
“Four people died on the scene while seven other people were taken to hospital with serious injuries,” police spokesperson Col Adéle Myburgh averred.
The identities of the deceased are still unrevealed.
The traffic police shut down the N12 road due to the terrible accident. The clean up crew spent at least 5 hours on the scene.
The North West police opened a case of culpable homicide.
