South African authorities decided to equip the police officers across the country with personal body cameras as a measure to gather full data during the incidents and protect the law-enforcement units from slander cases.
“Body cameras will be used as – but not limited to – a safety measure to protect our men and woman in blue during operations,” the statement issued by the police read. “This implementation is also in line with the governments push for innovations in line with “the 4th industrial revolution.”
It has not been revealed yet when the pieces of modern technology will be delivered to the regional and provincial departments. For now, the officials are searching for a way to push it through the funding process.
Such body cameras have already shown good results in other countries, where the crime rate considered to be at a high level.
