A Polokwane man killed two of his daughters before committing suicide at Ngaleng village in Mankweng on Saturday evening. He is said to have hanged two little girls one by one and then hanged himself after an alleged dispute with his ex-wife.
The man identified by Limpopo police as Samuel Kgatle, 38, and his wife split up last year. The children from their marriage were left with the mother to live with her family.
“On Saturday, the children went back to Mankweng to visit their father for the school holidays and upon their arrival, the man allegedly called his wife and they had a conflict telephonically. Subsequent to this telephonic conflict, the father allegedly turned against the children and hanged them one by one in separate rooms before he fled the scene,” police spokesperson Col Moatshe Ngoepe stated.
The police found the bodies of the girls, Mary Kgatle and Anna Kgatle, aged between 5 and 8, in the house of their father after they had been dispatched to the scene. The father’s body was later found hanged in another house in the area.
