KZN man to spend life behind bars for having raped disabled woman

The Nkandla Regional Court sentenced a 35-year-old man, Thandolwenkosi Magwaza, to life imprisonment for rape on Thursday.

A victim is a 26-year-old mentally disabled woman who was raped at Mthungwini in Ekombe in 2014.

During the court session, it has become known that the offence happened on 12 September 2014 when the woman was making her way home from a local store. When she was about to cross Mdonso River, the culprit suddenly jumped out of the bush and attacked the woman.

As Durban SAPS spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele claimed, the sentenced had overpowered and raped her then fled the scene on foot. The victim called her mother telling her what had just happened. The mother immediately informed the police.

Three days later, Ekombe police officers managed to seize the suspect. He remained in detention until yesterday’s court session.
