The Tzaneen Detectives conducted a detention during which a 30-year-old Lesotho national suspected of having committed murder of a man supposedly linked to illegal mining business was nabbed.
Limpopo police spokesperson Col Moatshe Ngoepe confirmed the arrest on Friday. The operation led by Colonel Cecil Machimane was conducted at about 03:30pm on Thursday.
The deceased was identified as an illegal mining Zimbabwean national, Frank Joe Moyo. He was shot and killed at about 7:30pm in Letsitele, outside Tzaneen on Tuesday evening.
“It is alleged that a 41-year-old man [Moyo], was coming from the Carnival City in Gauteng and arrived at a house in Zanghoma village to pay his ‘illegal mining employee’,” Col Moatshe Ngoepe stated.
It is said that an unknown man entered Moyo’s house yard while the victim was outside talking to some of the employees. The attacker fired a number of gunshots at Moyo and made off with the victim’s cellphone and an undisclosed amount of money.
An ambulance crew that was called to the scene confirmed that Moyo had succumbed to his injuries on the spot.
