KwaZulu-Natal police apprehended a 26-year-old Mpumalanga resident on accusations of having committed a premeditated murder of a police officer on Wednesday.
The deceased identified as 33-year-old Constable Thandiwe Mavaneni, Inchanga police station, has been shot dead following an alleged arguing with the accused at Mavaneni’s home in Mageba Road in Mpumalanga, a town outside Durban in KwaZulu-Natal.
“She sustained multiple gunshot wounds and was taken to hospital where she died on arrival. A case of murder was opened at the Mpumalanga police station for investigation. The suspect was immediately arrested and he will be charged for murder,” police spokesperson Colonel Thembeka Mbele confirmed.
According to her, the perpetrator is to stand trial in the Mpumalanga Magistrates’ Court on Friday.
During his detention, the police officers confiscated a firearm that was supposedly the murder weapon. The ballistic tests are to be conducted.
