Free State traffic inspector has been arrested for extorting a R3,000 bribe from a driver.
According to the RMTC statement, the inspector reportedly stopped a public transport vehicle in Qwa-Qwa for an inspection.
The inspector found out that the vehicle disk had expired. She proceeded to remove it and impounded the car.
The driver was instructed to contact the officer once he had enough money to pay the fees.
“The officer met the motorist in the bathroom where R3,000 in cash [was] exchanged. Police immediately pounced on the officer and the cash was recovered from her,” RMTC spokesperson Simon Zwane stated.
The inspector is expected to appear in court.
