Police shooting left two hijackers dead

A high-speed chase ended up with the death of two hijackers who were shot and killed by the police patrol officers. The shootout erupted on the corner of Hugo and Milton roads in Goodwood after the hijackers’ vehicle had crashed into the parked cars on Thursday.

“Circumstances surrounding the incident that occurred this afternoon at 5pm on the corner of Hugo and Milton roads, Goodwood, are under investigation,” Western Cape police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana advised.

It is understood that, while patrolling streets, the police officers spotted an alleged stolen vehicle, a Toyota Etios, and its driver fleeing the scene. They started chasing the suspects and, after a while, their car sideswiped three parked vehicles. During the ensued gunfight, two thieves were shot, both died of their wounds right on the scene.

There were at least seven civilians including a child affected by that incident. They were all treated and transported to local hospitals.

Other suspects are still on the run.
