The South African police continued combating smugglers across the country and since the start of the year have managed to recover rhino horns worth almost R85 million.
The arrests and discoveries were made during numerous operations in Kempton Park and OR Tambo International Airport.
In the latest incident, the officers found the criminals’ cache, in which the rare and expensive bones were stashed in wine crates. The horns were estimated at R38 million.
In January, the search conducted in one of the OR Tambo’s warehouses exposed horns valued at R23 million, while several weeks later, the law-enforcement services apprehended two suspects with 10 more pieces of material valued at R2 million.
