A Somali businessman was strangled, stabbed and burnt to death after he had given his former employee a lift.
The 26-year-old Limpopo resident was arrested after months on the run.
It is believed that Mahomed Abdullah Hassan was driving his vehicle to town and noticed his ex-employee hitch-hiking. Hassan stopped to give him a lift.
While they were driving, the perpetrator, Humphrey Mothata, tried to strangle the businessman. As they were fighting inside the car, Mothata grabbed a knife and allegedly stabbed Hassan.
According to Limpopo police spokesperson Col Moatshe Ngoepe, the businessman was lying dead in the car when Mothata drove the vehicle towards Mokopane.
The perpetrator parked the car, took the money, removed Hassan’s body and doused it with inflammable liquid and burnt it.
The police officers found Hassan’s car during the investigation but its new owner told the police he had bought it from someone else.
Mothata was arrested on May 2.
The criminal made his appearance in court. The case is postponed to May 27 for a bail application.
