Durban shacks on fire

Hundreds of people from Durban informal settlement have been left homeless after a fire ripped through the illegal constructions that had been built by the so-called “shack dwellers”.

At least 50 shacks in the Mayville area were burnt to the ground according to Robert McKenzie, spokesperson for KwaZulu-Natal Emergency Medical Services.

The firefighters managed to prevent the further spread of the fire. Neither casualties, nor injuries were reported by the authorities following the accident.
