A 28-year-old man, Byron Davids, accused of culpable homicide was sentenced by the Wynberg Regional Court to an eighteen-year prison term for the murder of the alleged impregnator of his girlfriend. The Wynberg Regional Court handed down the sentence on Wednesday.
“Byron Davids was sentenced earlier this week for killing Denzil Thorpe in September last year,” police spokesman Andrè Traut confirmed.
Charges of being in possession of an unlicensed firearm and a number of rounds of ammunition were laid against Davids shortly after he had been arrested in September. He was sentenced to 15 years behind bars for the possession of an unlicensed firearm and two years for the possession of ammunition in addition to the first sentence. All three sentences will be served concurrently.
Provincial police commissioner, Lieutenant-General Khombinkosi Jula, commended Sergeant Xhanti Neti of Steenberg Detectives for his investigation and contribution to removing an armed criminal from the Steenberg streets.
