Bricks were falling and metal was gnashing when two local car drivers attempted to break through the Kruger National Park gates within two hours.
Two separate accidents took place on Wednesday night and resulted in severe destruction of the Paul Kruger gate on Skukuza Road, the park representatives said in a statement.
The first crash occurred at around 9pm when a light motor vehicle collided with the walls, reversed and drove off. The local SAPS department has already retrieved the car’s number plates and is now searching for the careless driver.
Two hours later, a bakkie crashed into the guard house, injuring the security staff.
“The car smashed through the gate and into the guard house. Three people were injured, one was ferried to hospital but has since been discharged and charged with driving under the influence and negligence as well as damage to property,” Isaac Phaahla, the KNP’s general manager of communications and marketing, confirmed.
