More than 1.2 million pigs were infected with African swine fever in Vietnam. The virus is spreading in the Southeast Asia.
The virus was detected in the country in February and since then it has spread to 29 provinces.
“The risk of the virus spreading further is very high and the evolution of the outbreak is complicated,” the government’s statement read.
It is also reported that many farmers could not cull the infected pigs due to the lack of funds.
The United Nations Food and Agriculture Organization advised the country to declare swine fever outbreak as a national emergency.
