The charred remains of a missing young woman and her child were found near Windsorton, about 55km north of Kimberley, Northern Cape. The police said they had already detained a 35-year-old man suspected of double-murder and concealment of crime.
SAPS Captain Olebogeng Tawana confirmed a gruesome discovery of the two burnt bodies. A shocked local man called the police at about 9am on Sunday morning after he had spotted something charred what looked like a body part. The bodies were hidden among dense bushes and trees near a footbridge close to the Windsorton hydroponic plant.
The police reported that the woman and her baby boy went missing on Saturday. The suspect was arrested in Windsorton later on Sunday, with the assistance of a South African Police Service (SAPS) search and rescue team, Windsorton detectives.
“Further investigations resulted in the arrest of a 35-year-old man, believed to be the dead woman’s boyfriend and father of the baby,” police spokesperson Captain Olebogeng Tawana stated.
