High-speed head-on collision in EC: 3 killed, Andrew Turnbull among them

A horrible crash occurred on the R72 near the town of Port Alfred in the Eastern Cape at around 2pm on Sunday. The list of victims includes the infamous Andrew Turnbull.

“A Mercedes Benz with two occupants, including the driver, was travelling from Port Alfred and collided with a Jaguar travelling from Kenton. The number of occupants in the Jaguar has not been confirmed,” Eastern Cape transport department spokesperson Khuselwa Rantjie stated. “It’s alleged that driving at high speed may have contributed to the incident. Local authorities will continue with further investigations.”

Two people were confirmed dead on the scene, among them Ryan Byrne, a student at the 43 Air School in Port Alfred and a close friend of Andrew Turnbull. The latter was transported to hospital and died in the early hours of Monday morning succumbing to multiple injuries.

Turnbull became known after he had been accused of assaulting his ex-girlfriend. He was released on R10,000 bail in October 2018.
