CT police nab a driver with abalone worth R2m

A 25-year-old Chinese driver was arrested in Bellville in Cape Town while attempting to transport over 340 kilograms of abalone.

The suspicious looking man caught attention of a police squad who was conducting an election patrol, Police spokesperson Sergeant Noloyiso Rwexana said.

The officers approached the resident’s Ford Ranger and found 16 carefully sealed boxes with abalone. Moreover, the policemen decided to search a nearby warehouse that the suspected car left a moment ago.

The building appeared to be an illegal abalone processing facility with various equipment and tools stored inside.

The man is expected to appear in the Bellville Magistrate’s Court on Friday.
