Beitbridge police seized large batch of explosives at border

The police department officials aver that they apprehended a woman while she was trying to smuggle 200 units of explosive at the Beitbridge border post in Limpopo.

According to an official statement, the 38-year-old woman believed to be a native of Zimbabwe was arrested during a search at a customs station on Sunday when the officers had found a number of blasting cartridges in her luggage.

“During the search, two hundred 200 units of Superpower 90 Blasting cartridges were recovered in her luggage wrapped inside plastic bags. The origin and destination of these explosives will be determined through ongoing police investigations,” spokesperson Constable Maphure Manamela said.

A case of illicit possession of explosives was opened by the police following the arrest.
