14-year-old girl missing in Mitchells Plain

14-year-old Mumtaaz Abrahams has not been seen since Sunday. Her family begged the community to help locate the missing girl.

Mumtaaz and her siblings live with their legal guardians – aunt Kashiefa Fakir and her mother Faldiela – on Olive Street in Eastridge, Mitchells Plain.

“We were all in the house at about 2pm when Mumtaaz informed me she wanted to buy something at the shop. The store is just a few houses away from us so when she was taking a long time I asked her younger brother to check why she was taking so long,” Fakir explained. “I was surprised when he returned without her, saying she was not there. I thought maybe she had met a friend.”

Mumtaaz was last seen wearing a black long-sleeve top, blue denim pants and black slippers.

“Mumtaaz is approximately 1.5m tall, she weighs about 45kg, light skin in complexion with dark brown eyes and brown hair shoulder length,” South African Police Services Western Cape spokesperson Siyabulela Malo stated.

Malo called on anyone with information on the teenager’s whereabouts to contact investigating officer Mboxela of Mitchells Plain Police at 073 1141 921 or 021 370 1638, or send an anonymous tip via Crime Stop at 086 0010 111, or SMS Crime Line at 32211.
