An exchange of fire between gangsters and police officers occurred on the R558 in Protea Glen, Soweto. It left one man dead and another one injured in the shoot-out with police on Monday.
“Paramedics arrived on the scene at 10:03 a.m. to find the body of a man lying on the side of the road,” ER24 spokesperson Russel Meiring said.
Russel Meiring said that when the shooting was over the paramedics examined one gunman who had sustained a fatal gunshot wound to his head. Nothing could be done for him and he was pronounced dead.
The second suspect managed to flee the scene but was captured by the police a few blocks down the road. The man was also assessed by the paramedics as he has sustained a gunshot wound to his back.
“The man was treated and thereafter transported to a nearby hospital for further care. Local authorities were on the scene for further investigations,” Meiring said.
